Somerleyton's distinctive estate cottages and older rural properties make it one of the more characterful villages we work in — and their chimneys need careful, considered repair work.
Much of Somerleyton was rebuilt as a model estate village in the 1840s under Sir Morton Peto, and those Victorian estate cottages along the main road have steeply pitched roofs and prominent chimney stacks that are very much part of the architecture. Lead soakers and stepped flashings on these older stacks are often original or have had poor patch repairs over the years; when they fail, water finds its way into the roof structure quickly given the steep pitch.
We treat these properties with the care they deserve — using code 4 and code 5 lead sheet dressed properly to the stack rather than flashing tape or silicone workarounds. If you have a Somerleyton estate cottage or any older property near the Hall, call us for a chimney survey before the autumn rains set in.
